If you cannot find a specific contact in Cognism, there are several possible reasons.
This article explains the most common causes and provides steps you can take to improve your search results.
The Contact Is Not Available in Cognism
Cognism does not contain every business contact worldwide.
A contact may not appear in search results if they have not yet been identified or verified within the Cognism database.
Your Search Filters Are Too Restrictive
Applying multiple filters can significantly reduce the number of results returned.
Try the following:
- Remove or broaden location filters.
- Expand company size or industry criteria.
- Remove seniority or department filters.
- Check the spelling of the contact or company name.
- Search using the company name instead of the contact name.
If you're searching by company, verify that the company domain is correct.
The Contact Has Changed Jobs
People frequently move between organisations or change roles.
If a contact recently changed employers, try searching using their current company or a broader search rather than their previous organisation.
Privacy or Compliance Restrictions
In some regions, data availability may be limited due to local privacy regulations or legal requirements.
As a result, some contacts may not be available even if they work for a known company.
The Record Has Been Updated or Removed
Cognism continuously reviews and updates its database.
During this process, records may be updated, merged, or removed if they are no longer considered accurate or no longer meet quality standards.
Still Can't Find the Contact?
If you cannot locate a contact after broadening your search:
- Verify the company name or domain.
- Search using fewer filters.
- Confirm the contact's current employer.
- Try searching for other contacts at the same company.
If the contact is still unavailable, it may not currently exist in the Cognism database.
