Use Cognism ID fields in your CRM to identify records created or enriched by Cognism and accurately measure your return on investment.
By mapping Cognism IDs to your CRM records, you can build reports that distinguish between records sourced through Cognism and records that were later enriched with Cognism data.
Before you begin
Before configuring Cognism ID fields, ensure that:
- Your CRM is connected to Cognism.
- You have permission to create custom fields in your CRM.
- You have permission to edit field mappings in Cognism.
Why use Cognism ID fields?
Cognism ID fields provide a reliable way to identify records that have passed through Cognism.
Unlike source fields, which may already contain values from other systems, Cognism ID fields are populated whenever a record is exported from Cognism.
This allows you to:
- Measure Cognism adoption.
- Track records created through Cognism.
- Track records enriched through Cognism.
- Build accurate CRM reports and dashboards.
- Demonstrate the business impact of Cognism.
Create a Cognism ID field in your CRM
Create a custom text field for each CRM object you export to from Cognism.
We recommend:
- Field name: Cognism ID
- Field type: Text
- Minimum length: 255 characters
Ensure users exporting records have permission to view and update the field.
Map the field in Cognism
After creating the custom field in your CRM:
- Go to Settings > Integrations.
- Select Configure for your connected CRM.
- Open Field Mappings.
- Map the appropriate Cognism ID field to your custom CRM field.
- Save your changes.
Once configured, every record exported from Cognism will include its corresponding Cognism ID.
Understanding Cognism ID vs Source fields
These fields serve different purposes.
Source field
Indicates where a record originally came from.
Because many organisations already populate Source from marketing automation, forms, or other integrations, it cannot always identify whether Cognism contributed to a record.
Cognism ID field
Indicates that the record has been exported or enriched using Cognism.
It provides the most reliable way to measure Cognism usage and reporting.
Using both fields together gives you a more complete picture of your data.
For example:
| Source | Cognism ID | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Cognism | Present | Record created using Cognism |
| Another source | Present | Existing record enriched using Cognism |
| Another source | Empty | Record has not been exported from Cognism |
Reporting recommendations
Once Cognism ID fields have been configured, you can build CRM reports to measure:
- Records created by Cognism.
- Records enriched by Cognism.
- Pipeline generated from Cognism records.
- Revenue influenced by Cognism.
- User adoption of Cognism.
Expected result
After configuration:
- Exported records contain a Cognism ID.
- CRM reporting becomes more accurate.
- Records created and enriched by Cognism can be identified separately.
- ROI reporting becomes significantly easier.
