This article outlines the requirements, supported editions, permissions, and other considerations for using the Cognism Salesforce integration.
Before You Begin
Before connecting Salesforce to Cognism, ensure that:
- You are using a supported Salesforce edition.
- Salesforce API access is enabled.
- You have the required Salesforce permissions.
- A Cognism Admin will configure the integration before users begin exporting records.
Supported Salesforce Editions
The Cognism Salesforce integration supports:
- Professional Edition
- Enterprise Edition
- Unlimited Edition
- Developer Edition
- Performance Edition
Salesforce Professional Edition requires API access to be enabled by Salesforce before the integration can be used.
Salesforce Essentials is not supported.
API Access
Salesforce API access must be enabled before Cognism can connect to your Salesforce organisation.
If you are using Salesforce Professional Edition, contact Salesforce to enable API access if it is not already available.
Cognism Permissions
Only Cognism Admins can:
- Connect the Salesforce integration.
- Configure field mappings.
- Configure export settings.
- Enable Data Import.
- Manage integration settings.
Once the integration has been configured, all users can authenticate with their own Salesforce accounts and export records.
Salesforce Administrator Permissions
The Salesforce administrator configuring the integration must have the following permissions:
- Read, Create and Edit access to Leads
- Read, Create and Edit access to Contacts
- Read, Create and Edit access to Accounts
- Marketing User
- View Setup and Configuration
These permissions are required to configure and maintain the Salesforce integration.
Additional permissions for Data Import
If you plan to use Data Import, the Salesforce administrator also requires:
- View All Users
- Modify Metadata
- Customize Application
These permissions allow Cognism to synchronise Salesforce records and support enrichment features.
Standard User Permissions
Users exporting records to Salesforce should have:
- Read and Edit access to Leads, Contacts, and Accounts.
- Access to any mapped custom fields.
- Access to Salesforce Campaigns if exporting records to campaigns.
Although users can authenticate successfully without these permissions, exports may fail if they cannot create or update the required records.
Production and Sandbox Organisations
Cognism supports both Production and Sandbox Salesforce organisations.
When configuring the integration:
- All Cognism Admins should connect to the same Salesforce organisation.
- Do not mix Production and Sandbox connections within the same Cognism account.
Using different Salesforce organisations may result in:
- Incorrect field mappings.
- Export failures.
- Unexpected integration behaviour.
Supported Salesforce Field Types
The following Salesforce field types can be mapped in Cognism:
- Boolean
- Date
- Date and Time
- Number
- Currency
- Text
- Text Area
- Picklist
- Phone
- URL
Unsupported Salesforce Field Types
Unsupported Salesforce field types do not appear when configuring field mappings.
Examples include:
- Formula fields
- Geolocation fields
- Auto Number fields
- Encrypted fields
- Roll-Up Summary fields
Additional Considerations
- Every user must authenticate with their own Salesforce account before exporting records.
- Salesforce validates every export using its own Matching Rules and Duplicate Rules.
- Data Import is required to use Salesforce filters in Search and CRM Enrichment.
- Campaign exports require the Marketing User permission.
- Following Salesforce security updates, some organisations may require additional Connected App permissions during the initial integration.
