Configure how Cognism exports records to Salesforce. Export settings allow administrators to control whether users can create new records, update existing records, and how exports behave across your organisation.
Before you begin
Before configuring export settings, ensure that:
- The Salesforce integration has been configured.
- You are a Cognism Admin.
- Users have connected their own Salesforce accounts.
Open Salesforce export settings
- Go to Settings > Integrations.
- Select Salesforce.
- Click Configure.
- Open the Export Rules section.
Changes made here apply to all users in your Cognism account.
Configure export permissions
Export rules determine what users are allowed to do when exporting records to Salesforce.
You can configure whether users can:
- Create new Leads
- Update existing Leads
- Create new Contacts
- Update existing Contacts
- Create new Accounts
- Update existing Accounts
These settings help maintain data quality and ensure exports follow your CRM processes.
Prevent Contacts without an Account
You can choose to prevent users from exporting Contacts that cannot be associated with a Salesforce Account.
When enabled, Cognism only exports Contacts that can be linked to an existing or newly created Account.
This helps maintain a clean CRM structure and avoids creating orphaned Contact records.
How export rules affect users
All users inherit the export settings configured by a Cognism Admin.
Even if a user has permission to export from Cognism, Salesforce still validates their permissions.
If a user does not have sufficient access to create or update Salesforce records, the export will fail.
Browser Extension exports
The same export rules apply regardless of where users export records.
This includes:
- The Cognism Legacy web application
- The Cognism Chrome Extension
Users cannot bypass export restrictions by exporting from a different location.
Export rules and field mappings
Export rules determine whether records can be created or updated.
Field mappings determine where Cognism data is written in Salesforce.
Update rules within field mappings determine how existing Salesforce values are updated.
These settings work together during every export.
For more information, see Configure Salesforce Field Mappings.
Export rules and duplicate matching
Before creating a new record, Cognism checks for existing Leads, Contacts, and Accounts.
If a matching record is found, Cognism follows your configured update rules.
Salesforce then applies its own Matching Rules and Duplicate Rules before the record is created or updated.
For more information, see Configure Salesforce Duplicate and Matching Rules.
