The Keywords filter helps you find companies based on words and phrases associated with their business.
Rather than searching by a predefined industry, the Keywords filter searches company descriptions and publicly available business information to identify organisations that match the terms you enter.
This makes it particularly useful for identifying companies operating in niche markets or emerging industries that may not have their own dedicated industry category.
How the Keywords Filter Works
The Keywords filter searches text associated with a company, including information such as:
- Company descriptions
- Company "About" information from LinkedIn
- Other publicly available business descriptions used to enrich company profiles
For example, searching for cybersecurity, robotics, or digital twins returns companies whose descriptions reference those terms, even if they are classified under a broader industry.
When to Use Keywords
The Keywords filter is most effective when:
- The industry you're targeting is too niche to have its own Industry filter.
- You're searching for companies offering a specific product, service, or technology.
- You want to broaden your search beyond standard industry classifications.
- You know how companies describe themselves but not which industry they belong to.
Best Practices
For the most accurate results:
- Use specific keywords rather than broad terms.
- Combine Keywords with other search filters such as Industry, Technologies, Company Size, Location, or Revenue.
- Include multiple keywords to refine your search.
-
Use Exclude Keywords to remove companies that are not relevant.
Example: If you're looking for companies specialising in carbon accounting, quantum computing, or medical imaging AI, the Keywords filter can identify organisations that mention those terms even if they are grouped under a broader industry.
Tips
The Keywords filter complements, rather than replaces, the Industries filter.
If the industry you need is available as an Industry filter, using Industries generally provides the most consistent results. If the industry is highly specialised or unavailable, the Keywords filter is the recommended approach.
